Always ready to give an answer...

3/27/2015

The other day a really good friend of mine, a Southerner living in the Philippines as a missionary, eMailed me a link to a "Civil War" quiz:

 http://www.quizfreak.com/can-you-answer-these-15-civil-war-trivia-questions/index1.html

When you take the quiz, for those of you who decide to do so, you'll find that at least one of the questions, multiple choice, does not offer a choice that is correct. All of the choices are flat wrong.

Why? For those of you who've read my book on the Confederate Battle Flag you remember what I wrote on page 7:

Or, as Confederate General Patrick Clever said in January of 1864:

If the South should lose it means that the history of this heroic struggle will be written by the enemy. That our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will learn from Northern school books their version of the war, will be impressed by all of the influences of History and Education to regard our gallant debt as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.

In the last half of the 20th Century and now on into the 21st, the media, educational establishment, and "political correctness" have launched an all-out attack....

Because of this attack - and it will never end - we must always be prepared to stand up and proclaim the truth both in our words and in our lives.

In First Peter 3:15 the Apostle tells us to: "sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:" The same is true not only with our Christian faith, but also with our Southern heritage.

We sanctify the Lord God in our hearts by reading and memorizing scripture, prayer, reading biographies of missionaries and others whose faith will encourage our own, attending church, and generally living for the Lord in our daily lives. As we do these things, we develop the readiness to give an answer to those who would attack our faith - or maybe to someone who is just curious about it.

By reading books such as the one we are giving away on our Dixie Heritage website (www.dixieheritage.weebly.com) and other good books that advance the truth about our Southern history, by attending meetings where we can fellowship with like-minded men and women who share our ancestry and heritage, and by committing to live out, in our daily lives, the same principles and morals that were common to our ancestors we develop the readiness to give an answer when needed so that we can both defend our heritage and help others to discover it also.

One of the reasons why so many of our Southern ancestors were such great men - and as a result why they left us such a rich heritage so worthy of our defense - is because our ancestors lived their Christian faith. Church wasn't just a place that they went to on Sunday. Religion wasn't just something they did. It was was who they were. They had a real and personal faith that they lived in their everyday lives.  For example, in writing a 17-chapter biography of General Lee, I was able to almost totally ignore his military career. I wrote almost entirely on Lee the Christian. The Kindle eBook is available at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KMW0EGG). As you study Lee the Christian you quickly see why Lee was such a great General.

Lee had definitely sanctified the Lord in his heart and he was a man who was always ready to give an answer in regards to his faith. And after the war, when his nation, and his compatriots were under criticism and attack, when their good names were being smeared, and as the history of the struggle was already under revision and attack; Lee was a able to stand up and speak the truth and he did so with both eloquence and authority.

Every week let us seek to do something that would honor our ancestors and introduce someone to both our Christian faith and to the truth about our Southern heritage. Lets us start by doing something today!

THIS WEEK IN THE WBTS:

The Army of Northern Virginia reached the breaking point this week 150 years ago. Lee ordered infantry and cavalry units to hold a key defensive line at Five Forks, Virginia, only to come under Union attack. Union forces took many prisoners as they beat back Lee's forces and soon cut off Lee's only remaining supply line for the Confederacy to Petersburg and nearby Richmond, Virginia, capitol of the Confederacy. News reports of the week recalled bloody combat and thousands of Confederates taken prisoner. The dire turn of events forced Lee to inform Jefferson Davis that both cities would have to be evacuated and the Petersburg-Richmond siege lines abandoned. The war would end but the fight for truth and right continues as we emulate the virtues of our Confederate anscestors, as we perpetuate the principles for which they fought, and as we advance their ideals in a nation and in a world that needs them now more than ever.

Deo Vindice!
