Unlike in the United States, Russia is not tearing down their monuments and memorials. Instead, Russians like to talk about their history. And unlike in the American South, where the story only dates back about 300-400 years, in Russia, their story is over 1,000 years old and there, the average citizen is very attuned to the details, both good and bad, of it.
Russians think the "political correctness of Americans is stupid," and that our "politicians get upset by the wrong things." The typical Russian, if he could advise our politicians would tell them NOT to remove monuments.
Having lived with them for a month, Russians, Dissident Mama says, are not unlike Southerners. Her interactions with them have inspired her to begin writing on the similarities between Russia and the South, how both were invaded by foreign ideologies and how the struggles have caused both to reject Marxism.
Also noticed is that Russia is an intentionally NATIONALISTIC country that has maintained its national identity by LIMITING immigration. They even make it hard to visit as a tourist.
She went to the gulag museum and discovered that most of the people in the gulag were Marxists. They were imprisoned not because they rejected Marxism but because they didn't embrace and support the violence and murder that was being used to implement it. Or because they called out leadership for abuses of the people.
Those who listened to our 2018 interviews of Dissident Mama remember her journey from liberal journalist to conservative blogger. She recounts a little of that journey to explain how even when liberals know when something is wrong but why rather than admit to the wrong they will double down on it to save the "cause." Hence we progress from Abortion to proposed infanticide. Did you know that there is now "white feminism" which is not to be confused with "real" feminism. In short, "leftism" is off the rails and Dissident Mama gives us the play-by-play of the train wreck.
